Introduction

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is situated on the northern side of Leigong Hill in Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village which is around 250 kilometers away from Guiyang City, the capital of Guizhou Province. It is made up of more than 10 villages covering an area of at least 50 square kilometers. It is home to at least ten natural Miao ethnic villages making up 99.5% of the population being of the Miao nationality. According to statistics, there are up to 6,000 people living here counting to at least 1288 families.

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is made up of more than a dozen smaller villages that are constructed on the contour side of the mountain. Inside the village, there are numerous unique wooden houses locally known as Diaojiaolou. At the bottom of the hill is Baishui River which is interconnected by wind rain bridges at its banks.

The Panorama of the Village

There is a sightseeing platform from where visitors can have a panoramic view of the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village which is the best place to take photos and take in a perfect night view under the hazy night lamp lights sprouting from houses built alongside the hill. Local costumes worn by the traditional Miao people are available for rent to experience local culture first hand.

The Singing and Dancing Show

There are two performances one at mid-morning around 11:30 and another in the evening at around 17:00 to entertain guests visiting the village. In addition, there are a set of old songs of Miao origin sang by the elderly which are also very entertaining.

The Miao Nationality Museum

The Miao Nationality Museum is another very perfect location where visitors can see every aspect of Miao culture ranging from customs, art, literature, their way of life, the clothes they wore and their architectural styles.

Two Streets

The two distinct streets at the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village area are another attraction that can’t be missed by visitors. These two streets are very unique in design, one is packed with ultra-modern aspects at Youfang Street while the other wears an ancient look. The streets house snack stores, antique stores, restaurants and silver products stores.

Stroll and admire the Lifestyle of Miao Nationality

Visitors can simply stroll down memory lane walking down the streets of Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village taking in their way of life, seeing farmers working on terrace farms, following twisting lanes and interacting with locals on special "long table feasts" to taste a variety of Miao specialties that are mostly sour and spicy.

Visitors can experience eating on the Long Table Banquet with thousands of people held during special ceremonies and festivals. At the long table, there are a variety of local cuisines and s visitors enjoy this new experience they can interact with locals.

Experiencing customs

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village locals have rich customs and practices which many visitors find so interesting to be part of during a visit. For instance, there is a fascinating welcoming ceremony to meet and greet visitors into the village upon arrival featuring a total of 12 portions of blocking-the-way glutinous-rice wine served by Local Miao girls in folk costumes. Other interesting customs to look out for are the Yao Medicated Bath experience, the Long Table Banquet, the Dong choral songs and the Dragon Canoe Festival among many other more activities.
