Longmen Grottoes locates on the precipice of Arhat Peak, West Mountain scenic area, Kunming. It's the biggest exquisite stone carved grottoes in Yunnan and

It originates north from Sanqingge to south Datiange with a series of complete grottoes engraved on the cliff-top. From the south, a stone passage engraved with grottoes on the cliff top were built manually. The twisted passage has a similar height as a real man, you'll feel excited to appreciate exquisite stone carving art and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Dain Lake when you take a leisurely stroll along the way. The exquisite grottoes on the cliff were engraved carefully by many skillful masons from 1781 to 1853 for 72 years according to the folk story. When you look at grottoes, you might think that the architectures connected with Taoism culture are so stunning and spectacular. Hence there is saying that visiting West Mountain is in vain if you don't come to Longmen Gate.

Word "Longmen" was entitled on the stone plate, so it got this name. And yuanbao(coin in Qing dynasty) was engraved into the stone, and it's said to bring fortune to people, every visitor would like to touch and worship good luck.
