Benzilan is a small town in extreme northwestern Yunnan Province. It lies along a stretch of the Jinsha River (a major headwater stream of the Yangtze River) that forms the border with Sichuan Province, roughly halfway along the road from Zhongdian to Deqing. East Bamboo Forest Temple lies in the eastern slope of top Yonggan, south of village Shusong, town Benzilan, county Deqing. It is 105km to county zhongdian and 23km to benzilan. The Dianzang road passes across the rear of the temple from the mountain waiste and the vehicle can arrive the temple directly. The temple can be reached all year around without interruption from the bad weather.
　　The temple lies in the gorge of mountain against strong wind and along the streches of Jinshajiang cannyon. The altitude is around 3000 meters and the climate is mountain seasonal climate. It has the feature that the it is not cold in winter, and is not hot in summer.The temple is the provincial Key relics protection unit and is the cradle for Tibettan Buddhism of southern Yunnan. The temple has a long history with many relics lefts,and is mainly managed by many living buddhas.There are currently 300 monks and 4 living Buddhas manages those monks.
　　Dongzhulin Temple was founded in 1667 (In year Kangxi 6)by Kusho Dondrub and received its name by the Fifth Dalai Lama in 1670.  After the fights between different sects of Tibetan Buddism, the temple combined with other seven smaller temple and the current East Bamboo Forest Temple came into being. Since then it was enlarged to the biggest with once 700 monks and became the one of 13 largest temples in area Kang. The monastic village that surrounds East Bamboo Forest Temple is also quite lovely. East Bamboo Forest Temple has many beautifully intricate paintings inside and houses several precious statues.
　　There is one fairy regarding the temple. A very famous monk once visited the area and he loved the mountain in pyramid shape and regards it as the god and thus ordered to build the East Bamboo Forest Temple.
