Popularly known as the Kingdom of Animals and Plants, Baima Snow Mountain occupies a sheer 190,000 hectares of land. This snow mountain is the highest amongst 20 other peaks bearing a complete vertical sight of the virgin forest and rare plants and animals. It is covered with snow all year round at an altitude of 5,430 meters above sea level and looks like a white horse running through the mountains hence its descriptive name ‘white horse snow mountain’.

Introduction
Baima Snow Mountain is located between Deqin County in the Tibet Autonomous Region in the central part of Hengduan mountains and its high peak is situated in the north and low peak in the south in the transitional zone between Qinghai Tibet plateau and Yunnan-Guizhou plateau. The mountain reserve was established in 1983 by the people’s government of Yunnan and was later promoted to the national level in 1988. In 2000, it was approved by the general office of the state council.
Baima Snow Mountain Nature Reserve sits on the slopes of Baima snow mountain, Yunling Ranges and Renzhi snow mountain and in total it covers a total of 190,000 hectares. The mountains are covered in snow all year round and are home to a vast number of primitive trees such as Yunnan pine, Highland oak birch, snow-white rhododendron, George's fir and vitchleaf sophora. In total there are at least 47 species of mammals, 45 bird species among other rare species such as snow leopards, green tailed monals, horse musk deer and white eared pheasant in the protected in the reserve.
Major attractions and activities to do on a visit
Tourists are guaranteed fantastic landscapes covered in the snow especially in winter, during autumn the mountain appears high up against the clear skies and in summer the snow melts and flows swiftly in streams through the mountain peaks harmoniously. In addition to this, the natural views of the auspicious mountainous vertical zone covered in canyons of the Hengduan Mountain Range is also a sight to behold.
Get to see the most authentic flora and fauna ecosystem habitat grounds attracting tourists interested in research as the area is also a research center for several multidisciplinary like zoology, botany, ecology, geology, forestry and even meteorology.
Amongst the most conspicuous pack in the reserve are the black snub-nosed monkeys seen everywhere swinging on branches and jumping from tree to tree. This species is endangered and are protected in this reserve in their natural habitat on the highest altitude between 3,200 to 4,000 meters.
