Tianjin Confucian Temple
Introduction
Located at DongMen Street in Nankai District of Tianjin, the temple was established in 1436 and was back then known as a garrison school. Its architectural design follows ancient styles divided into a County Temple, Prefecture Temple and Minglun Hall which are all still preserved in their natural form covering an area of at least 12000 square meters.
The center was set up because in ancient times officials of different levels were not allowed to offer sacrifice to the Confucius in a same temple so in 1734, the Confucian Temple was constructed in honor of the Confucius who was a great ancient Chinese philosopher, editor and educator. During the reign of Yongzheng Emperor of Qing Dynasty, it was upgraded from a garrison to a prefecture and has since then been referred to as a Prefecture Temple. Over the years the temple has been renovated and expanded but most of the major reconstructs were carried out during the Kang Qian Flourishing Age in Qing Dynasty.
