The Suzhou Museum is a museum of ancient Chinese art, ancient Chinese paintings, calligraphy, and handmade crafts, situated in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. Suzhou Museum obeys the theme of “Design for China”. It combines modern exhibition halls and classical gardens’ architecture together.

Covering an area of 2,200 square meters, the Suzhou Museum is a museum of ancient Chinese art, ancient Chinese paintings, calligraphies, and hand-made crafts. It is situated in South Yangtze Area, a place distinguished by the sophistication of its intellectual classes and aesthetic sensibilities. Suzhou Museum has more than 15,000 pieces in its collections. Among them 247 pieces are ranked first-class. It also possesses more than 70,000 books and documents, and over 20,000 rubbings of stone inscriptions. The collection of paintings and calligraphy includes works of masters from Song Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasties.

History
1960: Museum was founded and first opened to the public in the former residence of the Zhong Prince of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.
2006: The current building inaugurated, which was designed by Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei.
Current building
The current building of Suzhou Museum was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei in association with Pei Partnership Architects. Construction of this building started in 2002. It was inaugurated on October 6, 2006.
Collections
With 2,200 square meters display area, the museum has more than 15,000 pieces of collections. Most are ancient paintings and calligraphy, ceramics, crafts, unearthed relics, and revolution relics. Among them 247 pieces are ranked first-class. It also possesses more than 70,000 books and documents, and over 20,000 rubbings of stone inscriptions. The collection of paintings and calligraphy includes works of masters from Song Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasties.
