Yuejiang Tower (Enjoying-the-River Tower) is situated on the top of Shizishan (Lion Mountain) to the northwest of Nanjing , Jiangsu Province, China "Yue" is equivalent to "Enjoying" in Chinese while “River” refers to the world-famous Yangtze River .Ascending the tower, one can enjoy the Yangtze River extending far away to its north and the scenery of Nanjing to its south.

　　The origin of Yuejiang Tower began from the first emperor in Ming Dynasty about 600 years ago. Before emperor Zhu, yuanzhang became emperor, with the red flag and yellow flag as sign of mountain lion, he directed 100 thousands ambushing soldiers and defeated enemy Chen, Youliang who mobilized 400 thousands for fighting against him. With this victory, Zhu, yuanzhang laid a rich foundation for the establishment of Ming dynasty.In 1374, Zhu, Yuanzhang built a tower on the mountain lion, and named it as “Yuejiang tower”. He also ordered his officers to write article themed with “Yuejiang tower”. Among those articles，the Notes on Yuejiang Tower written by Grand Secretary Song Lian，was a superb work and passed down for generations with Zhu's. Zhu, yuanzhang even ordered prisoners to build “base of Yuejiang tower”on top of mountain lion. After Zhuyuanzhang wrote article and made the building base, he suddenly stopped building Yue jiang tower. Zhu listed the reasons: “the god ordered him to stop building Yue jiang tower in his dream”. Second, “there were many projects needing him to do and he needed to slow down building Yue jiang tower”. Because Zhu, yuan zhang mobilized men building Nanjing and the city wall, so he did not have enough money and labor to build Yue jiang tower. In 2001, Yue jiang tower was finally built up. Yuejiang Tower was built first time and opened to the outside in 2001. The building is 52 meters high, amounted to seven layers. With its distinct style of Ming Dynasty and classical royal makings, it is regarded as one of the Four Major Famous Buildings in Jiangnan with Yellow Crane Tower, Tengwang Pavilion and Yueyang Tower included.Yuejiang Tower has attracted tens of millions people to come to have a visit and tour.

　　Because of the loss of ancient material and the difference between modern and ancient building skills and standards, the newly-build Yuejiang tower was not made by the traditional wood structure, however the same as most technique used for renovating ancient building,the modern steel concrete was taken placed for the tower in order to make the tower standing more firmly and keeping more convenient daily maintenance. But the famous tower are short of ancient flavor under the modern building technique.
