Nanjing Presidential Palace, located at the NO. 292 Yangtze River Road in Nanjing, is the biggest and well-preserved Chinese modern architecture. It housed the Office of the President of the Republic of China since 1927 until the capital was relocated to Taipei in 1949. It is now a museum called the China Modern History Museum.
History
The history of Presidential Palace can trace back to the Ming dynasty, it was home to royal princes. Later become the office of the General Governor of Liangjiang Area, Jiangnan General Inspector's Office, even the temporary palace for emperors Kangxi or Qianlong when they visiting the Jiangnan area. In 1853(Qing Dynasty), Nanjing was occupied by Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Army and took it as the headquarter. As the outbreak of Revolution of 1911, Mr. Sun Yat-sen took inauguration here and established the People’s Republic of China.
What’s to See
It covers an area of 50,000 square meters, combing the style of traditional Jiangnan area and western. It divides into three parts for visiting as below.
Central Axis
The central axis is mainly the national government, the presidential palace and its subordinate institutions. The Gate is praised for its unique style, pass through you will enter the Great Hall where Mr. Sun Yat-sen inauguration ceremony held here. The plaque saying “the whole world as one community” was hanging on the central beam. Zichao Tower has five floors, the primary building of the Nanjing Presidential Palace for office and conference, where travelers will get an overview history of the Republic of China.
West Line
The west line is mainly for living. The main spots are Xuyuan Garden where consists of typical garden of Jiangnan style, such as curved pavilion, elegant stone marble, beautiful lake etc. Besides, the temporary president's office and Mr. Sun’s living room also located here.
East Line
It has the charming Fuyuan Garden, affiliated executive building and the Tablet of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Army.
Tips: It is closed on Mondays(Except major Chinese holiday)
