Bamboo Monastery
The Bamboo Monastery is located in Furong Mountain, north of Kwai Wan. Founded in 1927 by old monk Rongqiu, it is one of the most magnificent Buddhist temples in Hong Kong.
There is the largest statue of the Three Treasures Buddha in Hong Kong. In the courtyard, there are many magnificent the Heavenly King Hall and the Great Buddhist Hall. The decoration is simple and elegant. There are many palaces, rockery, fish ponds, lawn, flowers, Buddhist pagodas, Guanyin Cave, worship tables and so on behind the temple. In addition, there is a four-sided Buddha from Thailand. The gate ofhas four vermilion characters with "Bamboo Monastery”. The Pagoda in the courtyard is solemn and magnificent thronged with many plants. The celebrity paintings and calligraphy are hanged in the resting room of senior monk Yu Rongqiu.
It is said that when the old monk was practicing Buddhist sutra, he was inspired by the Tibetan King three times to seek the blessed land he saw in his dream to build a temple. The oldled his disciples on many trips to Hong Kong. Finally, he came to a place where wild Hibiscus was famous. He and his disciples began to build a temple. Fortunately, with the support of believers, a Hall and the two retreats along the corridor were built in 1932. In 1975, the temple gate, Heavenly King Hall and the Great Buddhist Halls were under construction, and by 1982 the whole Bamboo Monastery was completed.
The existing scale of the monastery was expanded and opened in 1982. The hills are beautiful, with a view of the urban area and a view of the Strait and Island nearby. The monastery is one of the largest monasteries in Hong Kong. It is also a tourist attraction. A large number of visitors come to the monastery every Sunday or Festival.
