Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge is probably one of the most famous wind and rain bridges in China.It is mainly made of wood but in an interesting way: no nails or rivets are used. All connections are made by dovetailing a wood , ingenuity of workmanship of Dong people made the bridge so sturdy that bridge still stands and is in constant use.

Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge is a bridge inof Guangxi, China.Bridge is a special covered bridge and one of several Fengyu Bridges in the local Dong Minority Region. It was completed in 1912. The bridge is a combination of bridge, corridor, veranda and. It has two platforms (one at each end of the bridge), 3 piers, 3 spans, 5 pavilions, 19 verandas, and three floors. The piers are made of stone, the upper structures are mainly wooden, and the roof is covered with tiles. The bridge has wooden handrails on both sides.
The bridge has a total length of 64.4and its corridor has a width of 3.4The net height above the river is about 10. The bridge is located in Chengyang, and serves as the link between two populous villages. As a result, there is substantial daily traffic on the bridge.
The bridge is a few decades old. Its structure isand rather beautiful. It has five solid stone pillars, each with a wooden pavilion on top. It is said that the whole structure is built without a single nail or metal support; the planks and beams are held together using joints. In Mandarin, the bridge is called a Fengyu Qiao or Wind and Rain Bridge. It is one of about 100 such bridges in the area, and is said to be the biggest.
Such bridges are meant to shelter the villagers in bad weather and otherwise are places to sit together and enjoy the scenery. From the bridge, you can watch the river and the people going about their activities. You can see a tight group of two or three story houses. The houses are overlooked by a square drum tower. For an excursion while visiting the bridge, there's a trail from the main road up to two pavilions overlooking Chengyang. These give views of the villages nestled among vivid green fields.
