Chen Clan Academy

　　Chen Clan Academy lies in Zhongshan Road No.7, city Guangzhou. Chen Clan Academy was initially built in year Guangxu, Qing Dynasty. It was completed in 1894. Chen Family Temple is a family temple and clan academy for family Chen from 72 counties in province Guangdong. Chen Family Temple features local style of Guangdong with an artistic architecture complex, complete layout, exquisite decorations, magnificent outlooks and listed as national key protection unit. The purpose of building Chen Family Temple is for providing the temporary residence to the family members to prepare the imperial examination, designation, pay tax and litigation. As compensation for donating the building fund, those chen family memeber might enshrine their ancestors in the temple. Since 21 centurary, Chen Family Temple was listed as one of eight new centuary interesting scenes in Guangzhou. Chen Clan Academy is a museum and the hot tourist spot featuring the local culture. Chen Clan Academy are focus on the architecture arts of south of China. It covers an area of over 15,000 square meters including front courtyard, west courtyard, east courtyeard and rear courtyard. When entering the temple, you will walk in the elegant and simple courtyeard, pass through direct and nice long corridor, with classical music, all visitors marvel at the artist creation of Chinese of south of China. All visitors enjoy the beauty and limitless imagination from the magnificent layout, active outline, stereotype structure and elegant combination of the temple. In “The world architecture arts” and “The architecture of south of China” written by Germanay, Britain, and Japan, Chen Family Temple was reputed as the paragon of architecture arts of South of China.

　　Chen Clan Academy is the largest, best preserved, and best decorated ancient architecture existing in Guangdong province. Chen Family Temple is a symmetric complex consisting of 19 buildings with nine halls and six courtyards. There are two courtyards which are served as main courtyards. The front one was used for study of the Confucian classics while the back one housed a temple to the ancestors of the Chen clan. In 1986, it was designated as an important cultural relic by the State Council. The temple is now the site of the Museum of Guangdong Folk Arts and Crafts. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is notable for the rich decorations including both inside and outside. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a large collection of wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, pottery, plaster and iron engraving.
