Introduction

The Chongqing Yangtze River Cable is located on the Yangtze River spanning up to 1,166 meters. Its north station is located on Chang'an Temple on Xinhua Road in Jiefangbei and the south station is located near Nanbin Road in Nan’an District. This cable car was opened in 1987 and it was later listed in Batch II of Chongqing Cultural Relics Protected Buildings on December 15, 2009.

It is used both by locals and tourists to increase the efficiency of transport between Yuzhong and Nan'an districts in Chongqing without building expensive new bridges. For locals, it is a cheap means to get to Jiefangbai CBD, but for tourists, it's an experience of a lifetime although there are plans to open and operate parallel bridges leading to the closure of the cable car. The cable cars here are a witness to the rich history of the development of the city. However, now more transportation means have been developed and more bridges cross over the river meaning cable cars have almost completed its historic mission but only time can tell.

A number of movies and TV dramas scenes have been shot from the Yangtze River cableway such as  "Curiosity kills cats" “Zhou Yu's train" and “Crazy Stone", "Curiosity kills cats" amongst many more others.

Things to see and do on a visit

Visitors get to see ultra-modern skyscrapers, unique landscapes, buildings mixed with ancient traditional styles and views of the Yangtze River in a bird's eye view both during the day and at night for more eye-catching views of Chongqing's night glittering skyline. The cableway is a sensation amongst filmmakers and is the best place to interact with warm-hearted locals.
