Mutianyu great wall mainly made of slabs of granite. It measures 7 meters to 8 meters in height, and 4 meters to 5 meters in width.
was initially built in(550-557). In the Ming Dynasty  (1368-1644), general Xuda rebuilt based on Great Wall in Qi Dynasty. Since 1569, Tan Lun and Qi Jiguang, two famous patriotic generals, renovated it in order to strengthen its defensive potential when they guarded the strategic pass. It served as the northern protective screen, guarding the capital and imperial mausoleums for generations.

Currently, there are a first-class cable car andfixed in Mutianyu Great Wall. Mutianyu Great Wall has formed a comprehensive landscape gathering culture, Stone  and health fitness.

  One: lushly greens.
Lushly greens inover 96% of. In spring, flowers bloom on the mountainside; in summer, grasses dress the hills in green; October is the most beautiful month as the leaves turn red, yellow, and gold. The Great Wall is also magnificent in winter while dressing by snow. Mutianyu Great Wall offerslooks in four seasons.
  Two: Watchtowers in unique shape
The gate of Zhengguan tower is not designed in the middle, but is on the eastern side. The two-storey terrace is comprised of three hollow watchtowers, a large one in the middle and two smaller ones on two sides. It has many rooms to store grain and station troops. Mutianyu Great Wall is the only section with the-shaped watchtower.
  Three: Heavily-dense watchtowers located
From Big Corner Tower to Zhengguan tower, less than 500 meters, built with 4. From No. 1 watchto No. 20, with a total 3000 meter long, there are heavily occupied with 25 watchtowers. Every hundred-meter interval is located with one watchtower.
Four: the main and branch wall co-existed. There are 23distributed at close intervals along the wall. They are located not only in the main wall but also at the distinctive "branch city". Branch cities are built on the hill ridge against the inner or outer side of the wall. For example, No. 11 Watchtower can be found on the branch wall.

Five: double parapets

Both sides of the Great Wall have parapets to defend against enemies. Some parapets- tooth shaped instead of the regular rectangular form. Below the parapets, there are square embrasures, the top of which are designed in an arc structure, different from the traditional round embrasures.

  Three terrific scenic spots:
Terrace (No. 6 Watchtower) is 40 meters long, 30 meters wide, and 20 meters high. The terrace was built in 1404 with an important strategic position. One side facing the Mutianyu Pass is stationed with Mongolian troops whileis an entry to Beijing and an express way to imperial tomb. The gate is not designed in the middle, but is on the eastern side. The two-storey terrace is comprised of three hollow watchtowers, a large one in the middle and two smaller ones on two sides. It has many rooms to store grain and station troops.

Big Corner Tower (No. 1 Watchtower) is connected with Mutianyu in the west, with Gubeikou in the east, and with a branch city wall in the south. The tower looks like a corner from each angle, so it is called Big Corner Tower. Big corner Tower divide Great Wall occupied by County Ji from Great Wall occupied by County Chang. Big Corner Tower is one of the biggest and the toppest eastern tower. A broad view from the big corner tower convenience visitors a lot.

Beijing Olympic Park

Beijing Olympic Park is where the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympics took place. The park was designed to contain ten venues, the Olympic Village, and other supporting facilities. Afterward, it was transformed into a comprehensive multifunctional activity center for the public.

National Stadium also known as the Bird's Nest is a stadium in Beijing. It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, and football finals of the Games. The stadium has room for 91,000 spectators, but the capacity was reduced to 80,000 after the Olympics. It will be the site of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was made of strong steel with natural curves and crossing lattices, it seems like a giant cradle and nest for impregnating life. Total structures of inside and outside for the stadium is neoteric and simple.

The Beijing National Aquatics Center "Water Cube" hosted the swimming, diving and synchronized swimming events. It has a capacity of 6,000 (17,000 during the 2008 Olympics) and is located next to the National Stadium. It will be the site of the curling competitions in 2022. The shape of Water Cube inspired from the natural formations of soap bubbles and cells. It has been praised as a magic water cube since it can decorate with natural iridescent light. In the evening, people might feel pleasant and leisure when they watch these buildings which display colorful lights casting a bright and dazzling sea world.

They are unparalleled and unprecedented landmarks in Beijing. They hold thousands of competitions insides the stadium but also attracts millions of visitors to appreciate remarkable buildings in China.

Hutong

According to experts, the word Hutong originated from Mongolian language meaning"Well". In ancient times, people tended to gather and live around wells. So the original meaning of Hutong should be"a place where people gather and live."Another explanation says that during the Yuan Dynasty,in the 13th century, residential areas in the city were divided into  many quarters.  In Mongolian language, passageways  were called Hutong. But no matter what Hutong exactly means, one thing is for sure: Hutongs first appeared in Beijing during the Yuan Dynasty.

In the early 13th century, a Mongolian tribe from the north became very strong. Led by Genghis Khan, the Mongolian occupied Beijing, the capital of the Jin Dynasty. In the year 1271,Kubla Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan, founded the Yuan Dynasty and set Beijing as the capital city. Unfortunately, the old city was completely destroyed during the war. So they had to rebuild it. In old China, all the structures and roads were required to be symmetrical. So the city was well designed. First, they had to find a center, and then built a regular square city. The layout of the city was very much like a chessboard. About 50 residential areas were constructed, with straight roads and Hutongs in between. At the time, there was a clear definition for avenue, street and Hutong. A 37-metre-wide road was called an avenue,an 18-metre-wide one was called a street, and a 9-metre-wide lane was called a Hutong. Most of today's Hutong were formed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties that followed.

Yes everything was spectacular and fascinating very professional and prompt services. There were beautiful places to explore and to see in the 4 hours that we had. The comfort and beauty of the China was incredible, The history, culture and way of life of the local people we bumped into during the layover was beyond our expectations. Hiking on the Great wall after driving through a small remote countryside was very relaxing and rejuvenating. It was the best trip ever to experience on a few hours.

We had not previously used a travel agency for touring. The crew including the driver and tour guide were really funny, friendly and knowledgeable. Despite having limited time we still had free time allowing for shopping and grabbing a meal and drinks. Highly recommend this layover in Beijing.

Booking from South Africa on ChinaTour.net was so quick and easy, however I had to mail customer service as I had not received my confirmation within the 48 hours that the original mail had stated. Once done I received confirmation for all my train and internal flights within 20 minutes of sending the mail. I would highly recommend this website for booking trips through China and i will use it again in future.

Well worth it! Jenny was really nice and incredibly helpful with the immigration process after airport personnel originally escorted to the wrong area and didn’t want to allow leaving the airport. She takes great photos! Beautiful views and fun to take the toboggan down. Wasn’t too crowded on this day - and definitely worth doing with a 7 hour layover. Nice car and driver too.
